Romeo and Juliet

Oldham Coliseum Theatre

Warren Hooper

Romeo and Juliet set in the 1930s. The set was inspired by the grand tombs and mausoleums in Pere La chaise Paris. Set in the 1930s with Warren Hooper directing the brief was to have the presence of death from the opening moments. The set was designed to be like like a tomb and when Juliet is in her bedroom she is lit through a muslin curtain, the set becoming a four poster bed but also echoing a shroud and a coffin.
